Back to Artist-mode today! It’s interesting that I slipped into a photography project, something sufficiently artsy that fits with my lifetime of professional creativity but not something I would have imagined doing as “real” Art even as recently as last year. I’ve always loved photography, ever since I was little and my mom would drive us up to Yosemite in the spring to take a million close-up photos of dogwood trees and majestic waterfalls (on film!). Digital photos are what really sparked my interest, and the ability to click away at the shutter infinitely until I felt satisfied. But it was always something I used to promote my work, rather than the work itself. Just a side thing that boosted my profile and visual interest as a painter. Over a decade of instagram photos exist online to prove my dedication (even obsession) with photography, but I’ve never presumed to call myself a photographer.
This project changes that. On the whole, over the course of the year, it will become something more, real “Art”, if you will, adding a new rising sun on top of the last one for 365 days. It’s more than just a series of photos. But I am more than just a regular artist. 😘
