🌄 Day 74/365
A storm! Yay! Clouds, overcast skies, rain! I’ve been waiting 74 days for this. Truly I thought this day would have come before now but people were serious when they told us it “doesn’t rain as much in Kihei.” Well that’s certainly true. It’s barely rained at all. It can rain a mile down the street and it still won’t rain here. We’re in some kind of twilight zone of non-rain. When the rain does manage to reach this part of the island, it feels like the clouds are so close you could nearly reach out and touch one. Like they’re passing over and through me as I sit on my balcony. In California, rain clouds stayed waaayy overhead, high up in the sky. Here, there’s no land to interrupt the clouds. It’s open ocean in all directions. In fact, there’s more ocean surrounding Hawaii than anywhere else on the planet. That’s a lot of water to soak up as you’re flying across the sea, no land to slow you down. When they do reach the islands, the clouds just sort of plow through, uninhibited by this tiny amount of land jutting out of the Pacific Ocean in the middle of nowhere.
The clouds move so fast, the sky changes dramatically every few seconds. I took a lot of photos to capture it all, but this is the single photo that spoke to me most.
Happy Aloha Friday!
