🌄 Day 34/365
Managing Expectations. All night I was excited because I thought this morning would bring a truly spectacular sunrise. There was a significant wildfire yesterday that filled the air with smoke and convinced me there would be some sort of residual effect from it. Weird clouds, a lot of pink. That’s how things rolled in California. But life runs a bit differently here, and being surrounded by water alters the behavior of the sky. It’s unpredictable — like the weather, like people, like new situations. It’s best not to judge anything (or anyone) too early, lest you find yourself disappointed, having set the bar higher than was realistic. Life has a way of disappointing us, doesn’t it? Another way to see it is that things work out as they’re supposed to, regardless of what our plans are. A greater purpose could be at work, perhaps protecting us from some unknown danger or outcome ~ A path we’re not meant to take. Maybe it’s simply finding acceptance wherever you are, knowing you’re right where you should be. Something even better might be waiting patiently in the background. We’ll never know if we stay buried in false hope or stale expectations. We could miss the perfect magic right in front of us.
And, my god, look at that color. 🤩
