I’ve been giving my brain a chance to rest the last couple of days. Sometimes my art output is so intense and prolific that my brain shuts itself off after a certain point. I can’t think clearly, I can’t make decisions. Even deciding what to eat for meals becomes confusing and impossible. That’s when I know it’s time to step back, just for a bit. I’ve learned over the last 20 years that if I push myself through this phase, I end up making errors in my art or otherwise fumbling my ability to create what I want. It’s best just to keep still and let myself relax. It’s healthy and balanced, sure, but it’s also the quickest way to get back in the game. Pushing through and making mistakes takes longer to recover from than just taking a breather. It’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way in my career, and it’s taken me almost two decades to realize it. Creativity needs to replenish itself, and I need to allow for it. It makes me a better artist.
