🌄 Day 283/365
It’s weird, the Pavlovian way I respond to my sunrise alarm now. I feel like I’m starting to stand up before I’m even fully conscious that my alarm is going off. It’s like my brain, while still asleep, knows what to do so well at this point that it automates my movements before I even know what’s happening. I’m aware that it is happening, I just don’t feel like I have control over it. The mental habit that has formed after 283 days in a row (!) is doing the work for me. I take over once I’m actually standing, and once I’m standing, hey, might as well take a peek through the window and get started. Once I see the pink through the glass, art and instinct take over and I practically run to the patio to start snapping photos. I’ve learned at this point that if the sky looks cool the first glimpse I catch of it, it’s entirely possible it will have changed by the time (10-15 seconds) I get outside.
Fortunately, it usually improves after I’m out there, with the colors increasing, getting more saturated, and the clouds shifting around, creating interesting shapes. But within a minute, it’s over and begins to fade. I have to be on it at just the right moment, and wait until it peaks. If I blink, I’ll miss it.
It’s an extremely satisfying exercise.
