🌄 Day 268/365

More rain? What is this, California? (Ha, sorry.)

Yesterday we saw Orange County friends who were visiting, which gave us the chance to drive to the west side of the island, something that really doesn’t take very long (especially after growing up in California) but becomes one of those places that SEEMS far away (maybe a half hour) until you do it. Meanwhile whales are jumping around and splooshing water the entire way and it’s gorgeous and feels a lot like living in a cartoon.

Still not used to loving where I live every day, rain or shine. Very grateful for this tiny island. Grateful my mom begged us to visit a decade ago before we moved to the big island, which we would have done had we not started coming here instead. I couldn’t handle being on that much land. I always heard about “island fever” growing up, but if anything I had “mainland fever” in California. It felt like I was being smothered by the land mass. We were choking on Orange County.

My heart always breaks for people who have to leave at the end of the week. I used to leave in tears every time. Getting to stay here, to drive home at night and wake up still here (!) is one of the most wonderful, happy experiences of my entire life now. Not one tiny bit of me wishes we were anywhere else.

This sunrise was captured in Kihei, Maui at 6:28am on the 22nd of March, 2023.

Printed on lustre photo paper. Three sizes available, including a commemorative 16x20 inch print! All images, big or small, can be printed with or without the date and time. Just ask!
