🌄 Day 207/365
The vog from Hawai’i Island (the island next door) has really been affecting sunrises lately. Volcanic smog. Smog did the same thing to skies in California. Unlike California, this has a sulphur aspect to it that only makes sense if you’ve been to an erupting volcano. Without Hawaii’s famous trade winds to blow it away, the vog kind of gathers and sits, in this case down south where I live. A lot of us get headaches from it, or stinging eyes, or a weird sulphur taste in our mouths. It also alters the color of my sunrise photos and creates a voggy haze over the entire sky. I’m ready for it to blow away now though. Too bad it’s not up to me. In the meantime, we wait for the winds to return. That’s just how it goes when you live on volcanos. Their timing reigns supreme. We just watch and wait (with stinging eyeballs.)
This sunrise was captured in Kihei, Maui at 7:04am on the 20th of January, 2023.
