🌄 Day 206/365
Good Morning, Moon.
Well, it’s been a fun week. My mom heads home today and my life in Hawaii returns to “normal” (nothing about living in Hawaii is normal.) I’ve gotten to see things through the eyes of a visitor, which I do forget to do most of the time. I guess you do get used to it in a lot of ways. The heat, the humidity, the sounds, the smells, the sweetness in the air, the island-style music everywhere. I remember what I thought of all this when I was just a visitor. It’s intoxicating. It convinces everyone that they should live here too (and a tiny percentage of us do.) I don’t forget how lucky we are to be here. Leaving the islands was always a terribly painful and upsetting experience for me, like I was being ripped away from my home. I feel for those that have to get on a plane and go back to where they came from. Maybe one day my mom won’t have to leave either. Technically, she’s the one who gave me the idea to move here, and she specifically talked me into Maui. Thanks, Mom. We’ve lived a lot of places, you and I. I’m so happy I finally found my home.
