🌄 Day 191/365
Gorgeous clouds this morning, and deep color behind them. We had rain and flooding a bit back here in Maui and now everything that was brown and dead is green and lush. This part of the island is basically desert. It’s hot, super hot at times, and it doesn’t get much rain. When it does, the island comes alive. Ponds are filled with water, bringing back the sea birds and wildlife. Whole hillsides of dry grass are green again. The mud that’s still on the sides of the road due to flooding is covered in sprouting greenery. Everything looks alive! Well, except for all the giant trees that got knocked over, fully uprooted, lying across the roads. Trees that are still standing are brown and quickly dying, having been soaked to the root in salt water and blown around in mushy, sandy ground. They’ll fall over eventually too. The entire coastline where I live is crumbling into the sea. But that’s island life. It’s constantly moving and changing, and nothing can be relied upon except the unpredictability of the weather and the ocean. It kinda forces you to pay attention to your surroundings more. I adore that I now devote so much focus to nature.
