🌄 Day 176/365
The power was out for seven hours yesterday. At one point we were headed home when an emergency alert came over the radio announcing sudden 60mph winds, which we inevitably got caught in. Tree branches were flying through the air, rain was blowing sideways in sheets. I’ve been in a lot of wind in California but I’ve never been knocked off my feet like this. Since we drove safely, it was more an adventure than anything. The worst part was sitting at home with no power. When my phone battery died, we took a nap. Electricity all over the island was spotty and there were huge kiawe trees down everywhere, many of which we had to make weird moves to drive around. There wasn’t really anywhere to go. Next time I’ll prepare better and have some sort of non-electric entertainment ready, along with candles, and snacks. Snacks are important when there’s nothing else to do.
