🌄 Day 130/365

It’s funny how deeply I’ve acclimated to the temperature here. I am legitimately cold at 71 degrees. I used to be able to sit outside through the entire sunrise process without issue. Now I either require warm clothes or I sit next to the patio but indoors, under Musashi’s blanket on the couch (as I’m doing now.) I run outside every few minutes. It’s pretty silly. On the other hand, it’s nice to feel cold on occasion here. It’s not common. It warms up pretty fast in the next couple of hours. Sometimes I crave the feeling of fabric on my skin, even if it’s hot out. The kids in the area will walk down the street in the middle of the hot afternoon with a black hoodie on. It’s baffling. It’s way too hot for that. Have they acclimated that much that 90 degrees is chilly to them? Are they making some sort of statement? “Haha, newbies, I can wear this ridiculously stifling outfit and be fine! You sweaty, weak tourist.” I mean, that’s what I assume they’re thinking. Baking away in their black hoodies. The whole endeavor is fascinating. And I love it. I love that I feel chilly at all and I love that that’s the worst it will get. No seeing my breath in front of me, no stiffening up when I go outside because I’m freezing to the bone. It’s awesome. I was born for this climate.

The sunrise today in Kihei, Maui was at 6:29am on the 4th of November, 2022.
