Day 100 • The 5th of October

100 days! I’ve made it to triple digits. To be honest, I thought my sleep issues and interest in being a morning person would have had more progress by now. They have not. I will persist, though. I’ve still got 265 days to work through it. And I need to give myself credit for jumping out of bed when my sunrise alarm goes off — no questions asked, no matter how I feel. I get up.

I guess my interest right now is shifting to the volcano, where the sun is currently rising from behind. As the earth shifts, so does the sunrise. It’s hard not to have reverence for the volcano, as the ancient Hawaiians did, as it sits and looms over everything on the island. I find comfort in my sunrise companions — be it Venus, the moon, the volcano, or even the little flocks of birds that pass through my vision. We’re all witnessing the majesty together.

This sunrise was captured in Kihei, Maui at 6:18am on the 5th of October, 2022.
