Olowalu . 2022
This set is named after some of my favorite regions on the island. Each one is made with hand-processed Maui red ochre.
Olowalu is on the west side of the island, south of the tourist town of Lahaina. There is a strip of beach between the highway and the water that has lots of great trees that are falling into the water and turning into driftwood. It’s weird and beautiful at the same time.
This piece is comprised of earth pigments vs. acrylic, all the way down.
5x7 inches on watercolor paper. Full bleed to the edge. Made with Maui red ochre, 24 karat gold dust, charcoal, strontium aluminate, acrylic, water, and light.
