🌄 Day 61/365

I love how each day that passes leaves me feeling happier and even more content that we’re finally here. I mean, it’s been over 19 months now. Still newbies to most, but quickly becoming versed in all things Maui. Yesterday I spoke to a person that had only been here for 6 weeks. They were still trying to settle in, glean the vibe of different places, and become more familiar with the island. Where are the best bars, restaurants, grocery stores, social scenes, what town on the island is best to settle in? They looked at me like I was an old hat at all of this. To them, I was.

It felt a little odd, but I knew the answer to so many of their questions. I felt like I had trustworthy experience too, the kind you only get from living in a place. I remember being overwhelmed by grocery stores and restaurants. I remember not quite understanding the different regions of the island.

That I could answer their questions at all, and with confidence, was a wonderful feeling of being where I belong. We still feel like newbies but we’re clearly well into our new-life process. We’ve made friends. We have favorite bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. We’re plugging in. Making plans. Planting roots. Letting them grow.

I’m unsure about so much of life anymore, but I’m 100% positive that I am home. I’m probably going to repeat that again and again for years. I am awash in gratitude.
