🌄 Day 357/365
There’s a familiar and unsettling wildfire smell outside, from a brushfire not too far from here. It made its way inside our apartment before we went to sleep. It stings my eyes a bit as I wait for the sun on my patio. I garden while I’m out there — pruning the scorched leaves, watering everything. It’s become a lovely ritual that I suppose I will lose when I start sleeping in. I’m surprised to see orchids beginning to bloom yet again. I’ve never experienced reblooming orchids — not just once but twice in the same year. There’s a couple of geckos that live in a few of the plants. That makes me happy, that I’m providing a safe, green space for them. I make sure there is water in the stone bowl my grandpa gave me, that I occasionally use for ceremonial purposes, in case anyone should need it. Keeping it filled with water as the hot tropical sun passes overhead each day has become a type of ceremony in itself. Water. Just water. Water is magic, and life.
