It’s strange to feel like I’m restarting my career when I have 20 years of experience behind me. More accurately, I’m just picking up where I left off, at some vague point in 2020. Some of it comes to me easily and naturally. Other times I lose track of what I’m supposed to be doing and how much I’m working. Too much? Too little? It’s hard to tell. With everything else that’s going on in my life currently, I’m trying to be gentle with myself and ease into it if that’s what I need. Sometimes the inspiration is hard to contain, other times I just sit and stare at a painting waiting for any spark to come, any forward motion. Truthfully, it’s all part of the process, for most artists I think. I’m just relearning all the nuances that come with this work. Artists are important and necessary in society. Whatever we need that keeps us going, ideally in healthy ways, is important for the work. We gotta keep going. Making art is healing for more than just the artist.
