🌄 Day 234/365

A slight break in the clouds. I’ve been making art this week in a frenzy. Not because of the bar show this weekend but because of what comes after the bar, at the end of this month. I want to jump back into my art career with full force. It’s funny because I already have pent up energy that I learned to have working the bar. Sometimes it’s hectic and pressure filled and I’ve had to teach myself to just jump in and get it done! No dreamy, squishy art time available. Get those beers out! Faster! I can feel the same energy seeping into my art. A go, go, go energy. It’s not ideal (frenzied and pressured isn’t the best headspace for art) but I like that I’m able to hit the ground running. The service industry is probably one of the hardest industries to work in. It’s exhausting and you have to be aware of everything and everyone at all times. It causes this hyper-vigilance and awareness that’s hard to let go of even when I’m not at the bar. (Shoot! Did I forget that second glass of wine? Crap. Did so-and-so get their jalapeños? I can’t remember!) It sounds funny, but it creates a constant stress that hangs around long after the fact. But for now, it’s good. It’s helping me. I feel revitalized after more than 20 years of making art. I am quite grateful for the experience. I was pretty run down about art the last few years. Now I feel like if I can handle a busy football shift, I can handle my art career! Perspective is everything.
