🌄 Day 341/365

Right now it’s been much better for me to prioritize health than becoming a morning person, one of my original goals when starting this project. That part never worked out the way I wanted, although ironically it was easier when I started than it is now. I was reading this week that only 30% of people are naturally inclined to be morning people — our world has just shifted that way due to industry. It makes sense for farmers, who utilize the sunlight. The rest of us utilize electricity and technology and, for better or worse, can’t naturally be on the sun’s timetable, even if most of our jobs (and school) demand it. Personally, I would have done much better in school if it had started at 10 instead of 7. I’m learning to accept my natural rhythms, although I have a feeling waking early will come easier again once this project is over. Funny how life works. For now it’s more important to me to match Colin’s schedule, who currently works late. Otherwise we’d be on opposite schedules and that would feel worse than staying up after the sun has risen. So instead, I take an hour break from sleeping to take photos at sunrise and then look forward to falling asleep again. I’ve always had a bit of anxiety falling asleep at night (for various reasons) so looking forward to it is a pleasant and new experience.

This sunrise was captured in KÄ«hei, Maui at 5:44am on the 3rd of June, 2023.
